When you first arrive at an online dating site, you can browse through profiles without entering any information about yourself.
But the combination of low selective self-presentation and high warranting -- i.e., no braggy language, just specific, checkable details, or a link to an outside website that would verify who they were -- was a combination that did work.
In 2015, Pew found that 15 percent of American adults -- and nearly a third of 18- to 24-year-olds -- had used an online dating site or app.
